چکیده

Ion-exchange reactions are commonly used to develop novel metastable electrode materials for alkali-ion batteries that cannot be synthesized using direct chemical reactions. In this study, the electrochemical K Na ion-exchange reaction mechanisms in a layered KxCoO2 cathode as model system were investigated operando and ex situ structure characterization techniques. Some level of ions was observed remain during Interestingly, well separated from Na-rich phases discharged state, they form an intermediate phase which mixed at top charge. We discovered such residual prevent collapse high-voltage regime, thereby improving cycling stability Na-battery system.

Towards an Improved Understanding of Electrochemical Oxygen Exchange Reactions on Mixed Conducting Oxides

In solid oxide fuel cells or electrolysis cells with ionic and electronic conducting electrodes, the electrochemical reactions take place at the gas/solid interface of the mixed conducting electrode. This is in contrast to the situation met in aqueous electrolytes, where the reactions occur at the electrode/electrolyte interface. Thus, modified concepts are required to describe the reaction rat...

Photoemission for layered oxides

The study of electronic structure of complex systems has been intensely prompted since the cuprate has been considered as potential breakthrough in high Tc superconductivity. Angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy (ARPES) is one of the most direct methods of studying the electronic structure of solids. By measuring the kinetic energy and angular distribution of the electrons photoemitted fro...

High pressure driven structural and electrochemical modifications in layered lithium transition metal intercalation oxides†

High pressure–high temperature (HP/HT) methods are utilized to introduce structural modifications in the layered lithium transition metal oxides LiCoO2 and Li[NixLi1/3 2x/3Mn2/3 x/3]O2 where x 1⁄4 0.25 and 0.5. The electrochemical property to structure relationship is investigated combining computational and experimental methods. Both methods agree that the substitution of transition metal ions...

Electrochemical tuning of layered lithium transition metal oxides for improvement of oxygen evolution reaction.

Searching for low-cost and efficient catalysts for the oxygen evolution reaction has been actively pursued owing to its importance in clean energy generation and storage. While developing new catalysts is important, tuning the electronic structure of existing catalysts over a wide electrochemical potential range can also offer a new direction. Here we demonstrate a method for electrochemical li...

Correction to Ion-exchange mechanism of layered transition-metal oxides: case study of LiNi0.5Mn0.5O2.

An ion-exchange process can be an effective route to synthesize new quasi-equilibrium phases with a desired crystal structure. Important layered-type battery materials, such as LiMnO2 and LiNi(0.5)Mn(0.5)O2, can be obtained through this method from a sodium-containing parent structure, and they often show electrochemical properties remarkably distinct from those of their solid-state synthesized...
